Jay Doyle
In less than three weeks, Jay Doyle will be sworn in as the new mayor of the City of Georgetown.
After winning his election against current Mayor Carol Jayroe in November, Doyle has spent the transition time meeting with city leaders and others as he gets ready for his first job as a politician.
Runing as a candidate of the Forward Party, Doyle received 56-percent of the vote against Jayroe, a Republican.
He will be joined on council by three newcomer council members – Sharon Melton, Hobson Henry Milton, and Jessie Walker.
Doyle said he has been busy trying to attract new businesses to the area and is helping to get a new charter school up-and-running by the start of the 2026-27 school year.
We met with Doyle December 12 for his first interview with GAB News having chosen not to accept interview invitations during the campaign season.
The conversation included topics such as his plans for job growth, harbor dredging, his thoughts on the current council making last minute ordinance changes, his plans for the way public comments are made during city council meetings, how to handle rainy Christmas parade days in the future, and more.
