I need your support.
Dear Friends and Neighbors -
Although it was not an easy decision to make, I am running for mayor of the City of Georgetown because I feel it's important that another vision and voice be heard that represents all of Georgetown. Georgetown is at a crucial crossroad which will have an impact on all citizens living in the city. Many jobs have been lost but, there is no plan in place to replace them. Without new jobs, families that have lived here for generations will be forced to relocate. I have taken up the fight to help keep these families here, this is their home.
The biggest obstacle I have to over come is I am a transplant from the north. Many see this a disadvantage but I see it as an advantage. Being from the outside, I can see the cities strengths and weaknesses, I have seen what works and doesn’t work. The best way to make a city financially sound is having an industrial base that pays taxes and utilities to the city. The steel mill never paid property tax to the city and bought its electricity straight from Santee Cooper. We can not make this mistake again. Further, the seaport and the paper mill properties should be annexed into the city and also pay the city for utilities and property taxes. By doing this, we can ease the burden of high utility rates so many of us face today.
There are rumors circulating regarding the seaport, the paper mill and the steel mill. I would like to see more transparency from our elected officials so we the people know what is going on and have a say in these important decisions. Hasty decisions could cost the city for years to come.
These are a few of the issues that motivated me to run for mayor. These are issues that will affect everyone for years to come. In order for me to help you, you need to help me. First and foremost, everyone has to vote. Everyone. Second, I will need volunteers to assist me and and lastly, my campaign will need money to get my message out to all the voters in the city. Please sign up to volunteer and donate by going to the support/donate. I can’t do this alone but together we can help Georgetown reach its full potential.
Thank you,
Jay Doyle
